A Gite in the Vendee
Tournesol gite situated on the outskirts of a typical french village, set in 2 acres of private lawned grounds with views of the country side. The gite is newly renovated to very high standard with all modern fixtures and fittings but maintaining original rustic oak beams and exposed Vendee stone walls, the Tournesol gite has three spacious double bedrooms offering accommodation for six people.
Gite Facilities
Gite Bedroom 1 has a double bed with en suite, bath/shower and wc, with exposed oak beams throughout.
Gite Bedroom 2 has twin beds exposed oak beams.
Gite Bedroom 3 has a double bed, also with oak exposed beams.
Large separate bathroom with vanity unit, wc, bath/shower.
The fully fitted kitchen offers dishwasher, washing machine, electric oven, gas hob with extractor and fridge/freezer. Although modern, the kitchen has been tastefully designed to blend in with it's rustic surroundings.
Large dining-room leads through to comfortable lounge with LCD television, dvd player with films, English satellite and a Playstation for the children.
Double glass doors lead from the dining-room and lounge to a private furnished terrace with BBQ.
The private grounds of the gite include swimming-pool, children's play area, table tennis and a boule court.
The village of St Aubin has a church, bar/tabac, small village shop at which you may buy fresh bread and everyday groceries and hairdressers.
There are also hypermarkets and supermarkets within 11kms, (open Sunday morning)
The large beaches in the Vendee of La Tranche sur Mer and La Faute sur Mer are within 30 minutes. La Rochelle (45mins) and Les Sables (45mins)
Other activities within easy reach are horse riding, golf, tennis, zoo and adventure parks.
Lucon, Fontenay and surrounding towns and villages offer a large selection of restaurants and bars.
Further afield but still close by are the famous theme parks of Puy
de Fou and Futuroscope.
The renaissance town of Fontenay le Comte with a wide range of shops
and hypermarkets and a great open market weekly is 9 kms away.
Travel
La Rochelle airport is approx. 45 minutes away by car, Nantes airport
takes about 1½ hours and Poitiers is approx. 1½ hours away. Car hire
is necessary and most providers are available at each airport. The port
of St.Malo takes approx. 3 hours by car, Caen takes about 4 hours and
Cherbourg approx. 5 hours .
Golf
The area has an excellent selection of golf courses with nine of them
between 30 mins and 90 mins away. The nearest is Golf de la Pree: 18
hole public course near La Rochelle 45 mins away. Situated on the coast
with superb view of the Atlantic and the island of Ile de Re. Then la Domangere is approximately 10km south of La Roche-sur-Yon, an
18 hole 6480 metre course which is about 45 mins away. The other courses
are: de Port Bourgenay at Talmont St Hilaire, Golf Club Niortais
at Niort, Trousse-Chemise at Les Portes-en-Re, Olonnes
at Olonne-sur-Mer, des Fontenelles at L'Aiguillon-sur-Vie, Cholet at Cholet and Louis Rouyer-Guillet near Saintes.
Mervent Forest: near Fontenay-le-Comte is over 12000 acres of mixed
woodland. Ideal for walking, riding cycling and picnics, the forest
is also home to a water sports complex (canoes, sailing, etc), a small
zoo and an amusement park.
